Harbour town — walk to the quay, restaurants and shops

About
Gustavia is the island’s harbour and main town, where the yacht quay, the restaurants and the shopping streets all sit within a few minutes’ walk of each other. Villas are mostly on the hillsides ringing the port, with harbour and open-water views and private driveways, and a few sit in the town itself. There is no beach in Gustavia — Shell Beach is a short walk or drive from most addresses — so this is the area to choose for walkability rather than for sand.

Villas in Gustavia run four to seven bedrooms, split between hillside houses ringing the port — most with a private driveway and pool — and a smaller number of in-town properties within walking distance of the harbor itself. Because the area’s appeal is walkability rather than beach access, a rental car is more optional here than in most of the island’s other areas; several guests base themselves in Gustavia specifically so they can leave the car at the villa for a night out.
Shell Beach is the closest sand, an easy walk or short drive depending on which hillside the villa sits on. For beach time further afield, Gouverneur and St Jean are both under fifteen minutes by car, which makes Gustavia a workable base for guests who want harbor life most days and a beach day mixed in.
Good to Know
No — Gustavia is the harbor town, not a beach. Shell Beach (Anse de Grand Galet) is the closest swimming beach, an easy walk or short drive from most villas depending on their position on the hillside.
It's more optional here than elsewhere on the island — the harbor, restaurants, and shops are walkable from most hillside villas. A car is still useful for beach days at Gouverneur, St Jean, or further out.
Four to seven bedrooms, mostly hillside houses with private pools and harbor or open-water views; a few sit directly in town.
Shell Beach is minutes away. Gouverneur and St Jean are both under a fifteen-minute drive.
