The town wraps around a working yacht harbour, with hillside villas ringing the port and a smaller number of properties sitting directly in town. There’s no beach in Gustavia itself — the closest sand is Shell Beach, an easy walk or short drive depending on which hillside a villa sits on. What Gustavia does have is everything else: the restaurants, the boutiques, and the harbour itself to walk down to in the evening. Villas here run four to seven bedrooms, most with private pools and either harbour or open-water views from the hillside.
Getting Around from Gustavia
This is the one area on the island where a rental car is genuinely optional rather than assumed. Restaurants, shops, and the harbour are walkable from most hillside addresses. For beach days, Gouverneur and St Jean are both under fifteen minutes by car, and Shell Beach is close enough to reach on foot from several villas.
Who Gustavia Suits
Gustavia works best for guests who want harbour-town life — dinner out, boat-watching, an evening walk to a bar — as a regular part of the stay, not an occasional trip. It’s a weaker fit for anyone whose priority is stepping straight from the villa onto a beach; for that, Flamands or Lorient Beach are better matches. Families traveling with very young kids should also weigh that Gustavia’s appeal is walkable town life rather than a beach on the doorstep.
